Meet the Founder

Founder & CEO, Aging Life Care Professional®

Melissa Murphy, a dedicated Aging Life Care Professional ®, Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP), and Certified Care Manager (CMC), is the esteemed Founder and CEO of Aging Advocates CNY. With over a decade of profound experience in the aging field, Melissa stands as a beacon of expertise and compassion and is often referred to as a visionary for the future of aging services.

Melissa’s journey in eldercare began in senior housing where she uncovered a common trend among families. They were overwhelmed, underprepared, and in dire need of professional guidance. Melissa knew she had an opportunity to meet this need through unbiased advocacy with her expertise in various facets of eldercare, including care management, housing solutions, dementia care, and care consulting.

Effective January 1st, 2025, Aging Advocates CNY acquired “Senior Home Care & Alzheimer’s Solutions,” a companion agency locally owned and operated by Sheila Ohstrom for nearly 15 years. This strategic addition to their menu of services was made possible due to Melissa’s strong relationship with a top provider of senior care, and commitment to her clients. In addition to the 60 companion care team members, they also acquired two certified “Teepa Snow: Positive Approach to Dementia Care” trainers. In 2023, Melissa co-founded “Living with Dementia,” a non-profit organization which provides a community of support through access to resources, education, and support for those living with or working with those affected by dementia. Their annual conference has filled a much needed void in the care giver space in central New York. She currently serves as the vice-president on their board.

As a testament to her unwavering dedication to excellence in dementia care, Melissa is certified in Teepa Snow’s renowned “Positive Approach to Care” for individuals with dementia as well as a certified dementia practitioner. She holds the highest credentials available in aging life care as a certified care manager and advanced professional member of the Aging Life Care Association,® and is a proud board member of Silver Fox Adult Day Centers.

In addition to her organization’s mission, her passion is “starting the conversation” around all aging topics. Building a reputation as “The Aging Advocate,” Melissa strives to empower individuals and families to take control of their own aging journeys.
More About Melissa

Melissa began Aging Advocates as a solo entrepreneur and quickly realized there was so much more to offer the community with a team approach. Each member of Aging Advocates was specifically recruited based on her previous professional interactions with them, and witness to their compassion and competence within the aging healthcare system.

She is most proud of the reputation she has built among the community, holding strong ethics and commitment, which is reflected among the growing team of fierce advocates.

Melissa’s influence extends beyond her professional endeavors; she is an active member of the Profound Mastermind Group, recognized as Upstate NY’s “brightest minds and most ambitious doers.” This affiliation underscores her continuous pursuit of personal and professional development while contributing to and lifting the community around her.

Melissa serves as a vital member of the board of directors for Silver Fox Adult Day Centers, where she contributes to their mission and vision. She is also an active member of the Community Living Advocates in Onondaga County, Oswego County, Madison County, and Oneida County where she supports and connects with providers in the aging healthcare field.

Melissa’s work is being seen, recognized, and appreciated among the community as she was a 2021 40 Under 40 honoree by the CNY Business Journal, Community Living Advocate’s “Network Professional” of 2022, and a nominee for “Onondaga Outstanding Community Member” for 2021 for her work providing lunches to caregivers at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the heart of Melissa’s philosophy is the belief that every individual, regardless of age, deserves to be treated with kindness, respect, and dignity. She is passionate about education and awareness on aging as a whole, and dedicates significant time to speaking to community and employer groups. She is “The Aging Advocate” in every way, and a visionary leader in the aging community.
